Prevent Bonking

Have you ever hit the wall? Ever bonked? If you did, it probably came right around the two hour mark. Do you know why? It's all about blood sugar. Your brain needs sugar to function, but it has no storage facilities. So all of the sugar that your brain needs must be delivered from your blood. This means, that for your body to be in proper operation, there must be a certain amount of sugar in the bloodstream at all times.
Most of the time, this is easy. (But not uncomplicated.) You eat, and your blood sugar increases. Insulin is released which opens up the cell walls of your fat and muscle cells, allowing for the intake of glucose and nutrients. Your body also has stores of glycogen (its molecule of choice for storing carbohydrate) to keep a constant supply of sugar in the blood. Your muscles contain 78% of the 1800 Calories. This is so that your muscles have a ready supply of fuel at all times. 18% of the glycogen is stored in the liver. This is where the glycogen comes from to regulate blood sugar. And 4% is in the blood. This is the stream that is needed to supply the blood.
When you exercise really hard, the glycogen stores in your muscles are reduced. When they are depleted is when you feel an immediate loss of energy and a desire to quit. You have just hit the wall.
You can prevent hitting the wall by eating carbohydrate before and during your exercise. Carbohydrates can be reduced in the muscles gradually over days of not eating enough. Thus, you should carbohydrate load daily, especially in the days before a big event. And while you are exercising, you should consume carbohydrate every two hours to keep your blood sugar levels in check.

Pursue a Career in Pediatrics

If going into pediatrics is something that you desire to do, you have made a great choice. You will have the opportunity to help and ease the fears of both children and parents alike. Although this is a great career to get into it, there are several things you must consider before you make your final decision.
First of all, and most importantly, you must have a special place in your heart for children. This may seem like a no-brainer, but let's face it. You will have to deal with them much of the time. Therefore, you can't get tired of them too easily. There are some people who shouldn't work with children, because they lack the proper compassion and patience. This isn't to say that if you love being around children, that you will never run into issues. What you must realize is that some of them tend to be talkative and fidgety. These aren't necessarily bad characteristics. However, it is just a reality.
So, if you aren't able to gracefully handle them and all of their characteristics, you might want to think about choosing another career. Now, don't overlook the word gracefully. Being able to deal with children isn't enough. You should also be able to maintain your smile and cheerful attitude. This isn't to say that you will never have a bad day or a day where you won't feel like being cheerful. However, you should work to have a pleasant attitude at least most of the time.
Pediatrics will also require you to deal with parents. Sometimes, dealing with parents can be stressful. That's because some parents tend to be overly protective of their children. Therefore, they may challenge just about anything you recommend or suggest. Then, there will be those who may blame you if a certain medication doesn't work out for their child. So, you must be able to handle the adults as well.
Lastly, you should also be able to handle stress, in general. Contrary to what some may believe, pediatrics involves more than just performing routine checkups and prescribing medicine. However, many doctors also have hospitalized patients that they must check on. So, this means that they also deal with children who may have life-threatening injuries, sicknesses or diseases. This can weigh heavily on any physician. So, if you aren't able to deal with stress, this isn't the field for you.
The aforementioned examples weren't given to discourage you. However, you should know the truth, before you make your final decision. You should never go into something without knowing all that is required or expected of you. So, although pediatrics is a great and noble field, you should make sure you are cut out for the job before you make a decision to pursue it.

Avoid Automobile Accidents

Nobody wants to go through the awful experience of being in an automobile accident, but there are things we do, like speeding and aggressive driving, that can easily get us into trouble. Here are a few easy and simple things you can do to help to avoid being in a car crash.
Don't Mix Alcohol with Cars
If you want to do your best to avoid car accidents, the number one way to do that is to never drive when you've been drinking and never ride with a driver who has been drinking. One in three people will be in a car accident involving a driver who has been drinking, and drunk driving causes an average of one injury each minute in the US. Fatality figures related to drunk driving are staggering: nearly 11,000 people will die in a drunk driving crash this year, many of them innocent passengers or drivers of other cars. Call a cab, stay with a friend, do whatever you need to do, but do not ever drink and drive.
Slow Down
We are in such a rush to get to where we're going that sometimes we don't manage to get where we're going at all. Instead of having your car ride be a frenzied rush, leave early when you know you have to be somewhere on time. Drive the speed limit or under-after all, speed limits are not arbitrarily assigned, nor are they indicators of a minimum speed you should be driving. Let other drivers pass you. By slowing down, you give yourself more time to react should a crisis occur, and you also reduce any potential impact speed on your part.
Leave Enough Space
Most if not all rear-end collisions could be avoided if the driver following the other car would have just left enough space to stop. There are times when other drivers will be forced to stop abruptly, and you want to have enough time and space to react and stop without stopping in another person's rear bumper. The experts usually recommend a two second window between one car passing a stationary object and your car doing the same.
Space also refers to the space around you. Be conscious of other drivers and their ability to see you. Don't hover right next to another car if it can be avoided, and definitely work to stay out of another driver's blind spot. Leave space for you to react and for other drivers to see you.
Reduce Distractions
In many states, it's illegal to text and drive, and in some it's even illegal to talk on the phone and drive. There's a reason for that: distractions like phones are causing more and more accidents. When you're distracted, it's difficult to keep your eyes on the road and pay attention to other drivers, which means it's more likely that an accident will occur. Distractions aren't limited to phones, however. Anything from a flashy billboard to friends in the car to changing the music can be a distraction for drivers. While it's impossible to remove all distractions when we're driving, we can do what we can to reduce the distractions in our cars. Turn off the phone. Pick music you can listen to the entire drive. Ask friends to stay quiet. Ignore billboards and other advertisements and focus on the drivers around you instead.

Choosing Urgent Care Over the ER

Don't let broken bones and illness go untreated for a whole weekend. Urgent care centers exist to make sure that these issues can be addressed. No one wants to wait for hours in the local hospital ER. Rather than do this, make a visit to your urgent care center. It is always best to plan ahead, so before you are ever sick, it might be wise to look online for places near your home that will help you avoid the ER yet get the treatment you need.
Sometimes your problem is that you hurt yourself during the workweek, and all of the doctor's offices close before you can get there. This is another benefit of Urgent Care centers. You should be able to get in after you get home from work for the evening. This will save you having to ask off for work and lose money.
Other areas that an urgent care center can address are labs, vaccinations, and even physicals. Sometimes you will need a physical for your job. An urgent care center might be the best place to go when you have a busy schedule most of the day.
As you look for a center, make sure that you choose one that allows all ages. Some might offer treatment to all except very small infants. It will just depend on the place. Before choosing what one to go to, make sure and check areas like this out. Checking out a place in person is also a good idea to make sure it is clean and that there is only a short wait most of the time.
If you have small children, it might make you feel better if there is a pediatrician on staff who will be able to talk to you and work with your children. Many times kids might get frightened, so it will be helpful for you to know that there is someone there used to working with kids.
Once you narrow down your choices, you should have a fairly good place to take your family in an emergency. There are times for a visit to the ER, but in most cases the alternative should work fine.
If you have not yet taken the time to do some investigating along with comparing and contrasting among urgent care centers, it is a good idea to get started soon. Having a plan will make things go much smoother in an emergency.

Emergency Dentist Is Necessary

An emergency dentist is one who can accommodate your need for dental care right away. Some have later hours, weekends and offer immediate appointments to get patients in when they are in significant pain or experiencing a big crisis. The key is to know when to visit these providers and when to hold off for a regular appointment. In some cases, you may even need to visit the ER if you cannot get your dental care provider to make room in the schedule for your care. However, most dentists do not charge extra for these last minute appointments.
Pain Is a Big Factor
Everyone can tolerate pain at different levels. If your pain reaches an eight or higher on a scale of 1 to 10 it may be time you find an emergency dentist. Pain often stems from cavities or bacterial infections. In both cases, the nerve root of the tooth is exposed. Hot and cold, sugary substances and just touching it can send a shooting pain through the jaw. In other cases, it may just ache. If brushing and using topical pain medications does not help for the time being, seek out dental care from a professional.
Your provider will conduct an examination of the teeth and perform x-rays to determine what is wrong. Then, a deep cleaning is often necessary to remove bacterial buildup causing the infection. In other cases, the dentist will need to treat the cavity properly. Pain does not have to be a factor you have to live with long-term.
Injury
In some cases, it is a good idea to go to the ER if you are experiencing significant or severe injury that is affecting dental health. For example, you were involved in a car accident that injured your jaw and teeth. Your immediate medical need is not your teeth, but ensuring you do not have broken bones or injuries to the head. In these cases, seek out an ER first. Then, after your doctor clears you to get further treatment, schedule an appointment with your dental care provider to work out a solution for fixing your teeth. Cosmetic or restorative, these providers can ensure your smile is looking the best it can be.
An emergency dentist is one to call when you need help right away. Though it is not always easy to make the decision to go in for an appointment, it can make a big difference on your oral healthy in the long-term. You do not need to suffer from pain and discomfort if there is a dental care provider available who will work with you to get your oral health back in line. Knowing where to go may be the hardest part of the process.
